How permanent is the Fund you Create?

In order to meet your philanthropic and financial needs, The Community Foundation for San Benito County (CFFSBC) offers donors a wide range of fund types.
T
o begin your relationship with the Foundation, we recommend that you consider establishing a donor-advised fund, one of the most appealing and popular choices for new donors. A donor-advised fund enables you to continue to make recommendations about grants at any time to organizations, groups, or causes that relet your interests long after you've made your gift to the fund.
Other popular choices at the Foundation include a field of interest fund, which enables you to provide support for your special areas of interest, such as the arts, or a particular geographic area.

Specialized field of interest funds include scholarship funds (which enable you to provide educational support in a number of different ways), and donor advised pass through funds which allow donors to give a specific amount of money to their favorite charities through the Community Foundation.
An agency endowment fund provides support to one or more designated charitable, educational, or religious institutions. Earnings on the funds are distributed to the non-profit organization(s) each year, providing them with a permanent source of income.
You may also wish to consider creating an unrestricted fund, which can be used by the Foundation to meet the most compelling needs of our Community - based on the expertise of our program staff under guidelines deteremined by our board of directors.
While these kinds of funds suit most people, they may not match your particular needs. If that is the case, CFFSBC staff can custom tailor a fund to meet your requirements.

How permanent is the fund you create?
R
egardless of what kind of fund you create - unrestricted, donor-advised, field of interest, scholarship, or agency endowment fund - you have the choice to determine how permanent it is.
Many people elect to endow their charitable commitments. This decision means tha CFFSBC will invest fund assets to ensure that th fund's purpose can endure in perpetuity. A fund created using this approach is can endowed fund.
Others elect to see their charitable assets fully spent during their lifetimes. A fund created using this approach is an expendable fund. Still others wish to see their assets distributed freely during their lifetimes, while wanting successive generations of advisors to treat the remainder of their fund as a permanent endowment. A fund created using this approach is a conversion fund.
These and other options are available to you. Please confer with our Director to decide which of these flexible alternatives is best for your situation.
